iPhone WordPress theme

I think something must be wrong with me. It has been iPhone, iPhone and more iPhone. I see iPhone in everything. Now, even a new WordPress theme based on Apple iPhone! Maybe I am infected with the iPhone disease and cracking a WordPress theme is the temporary cure until iPhone’s price drop to an affordable level for me.

Anyway, I hope this new theme is suitable for this blog and make it easier for you to navigate and read, and stay a split second longer here. 🙂

iPhone theme

Oh, before I forgot. I have to thank Design Disease who designed the great Dilectio Theme which this theme is based on. Basically, I did a complete makeover, changing almost all the images and graphics and some of the style sheets. The original theme was released under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License which means as long as I keep the credit, I can modify it.

What do you think? The AdSenses’ placement good or not? Can this theme join the elite AdSense optimized WordPress themes category? 🙂

Amazing finger fracture game concept for iPhone and iPod

Oh my god, how could I have missed this! Just spotted this amazing Vans Finger Fracture Skateboarding game for iPhone and iPod Touch at the trendwatch. Although the game is now only at the concept stage, it looks really sleek and if it really became a real game, this will definitely become a major point to own an iPhone, or an iPod Touch! RM2700? I will buy an iPhone just because I can exercise my fingers on this game alone!

This would make the decision to buy an iPhone, a PSP or Nintendo DS Lite even easier! Hahaha…

Mac OS X Leopard is better than Windows Vista?

My laptop uses Windows Vista, and frankly it requires some get-used-to when I got it last year. I do not like the strict securities, though I like its improved interface, very sleek and colorful. Leopard is the sixth major release of the Mac OS X operating system for Apple’s Mac line of computers. It’s also the successor for Tiger, a previous version of the operating system.

Now, if you are like myself, very much a Windows guy, you might not know if Leopard is really better than Vista. But spare a minute to watch the following flash ad which runs on the NY Times website. The ad crosses over two distinct ad components; one skyscraper and one leaderboard.

Really creative, especially how seamless it is for the two ads to work together. Does this make you wanna try out Leopard today? 🙂

Proton ghost ad

I haven’t been watching much local TV channels lately, so I am not sure if you have seen this ad on TV before… or has it ever been aired on TV before?

Anyway, I assure you it’s creative and quite funny, don’t hide behind a pillow while watching this. The ghost ad basically shows two things I think: Malaysian roads are not lighted at night, and Proton cars unbreakable glass! Hahaha… 🙂

On a side note, have you checked out the new second generation 2008 Proton Saga, which was known for the past few months as the Proton BLM? The car looks good for the lower end market, and it should come with unbreakable glass just like the ghost ad above. Wahahaha…

Change your mobile phone into Apple iPhone

I love Apple iPhone so much but cannot afford its high price tag. Come on, people are selling it at RM2700, or thereabouts last I heard in Malaysia. It’s too expensive. And of course it’s not easy to find a seller too especially after Apple announced it would track down illegall iPhones in this part of the world.

Anyway, I have found a way to change your mobile phone into Apple iPhone. Read on if you want your Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and even Motorola to look cool! Don’t worry about the price, because it’s FREE!

iPhone pic

No, you don’t need to close your browser or restart your PC, nothing wrong with them… you are seeing a new version of iPhone. Sony Ericsson iPhone! Hahaha…

No Photoshop trick involved.

Good service from Streamyx

Streamyx has changed their system! Instead of taking up to 5 working days to fix a small “unable to connect to Streamyx” problem, this time it took them merely 2 hours to get the problem fixed. This morning all of a sudden my Streamyx connection died on me. I made a call and after going through the usual troubleshooting the lady finally gave up and filed a report.

Surprisingly the problem was fixed after about 2 hours and the technician not only called to ask about the Streamyx condition, he or his system even sms-ed me a status report.

Streamyx SMS

Not bad eh? 🙂

I am not sure since when they have this new system. But to me, it’s my first time receiving such a SMS from Streamyx and it’s definitely make me feel good to be able to go online again after a couple of hours. Last time, I usually needed to wait up to a few working days to have any problem fixed.

So, Streamyx haters and lovers, what do you have to say on Streamyx?

Sites you can’t live without

It’s interesting to see what sites folks at TIME think are so important that they can’t live without. I myself have been using a few of those sites but don’t think that they are so important until I can’t live without them…

Surprisingly, Amazon.com tops the list, but perhaps the list is not in any order. Frankly, I haven’t ordered anything from Amazon yet, although I do reckon that the number of stuff you can find on their online store is growing by the minute, it’s just amazing how an online bookstore can turn into in a couple of years. If you liked Amazon, I believe you will also like my online store too. Check it out.

Amazon.com

Next in the list is BBC.co.uk. I know this is a really good news website, but for my daily update, my first choice is still Thestar.com.my, and of course Petalingstreet.org (PPS). How could a blogger foget PPS? 🙂

What follow BBC are two fairly unheard of sites at least in this part of the world. They are Citysearch.com and Craigslist.org. But, I am sure no serious bloggers and website owners are not familiar with the site at the 5th position. Don’t tell me you have never heard of Del.icio.us? Del.icio.us is a very popular site to share your favorite web links and see what other people are bookmarking.

Customize WordPress login screen

I believe for WordPress blog owners, one of the most visited page everyday apart from Malaysia Tech Blog (for the tech news and tips and tricks) is your own WordPress login page (wp-admin/). Although there has been a lot of improvements in the look and feel of this login page, especially in WordPress 2.0, but I am sure you would like to customize it further. Put your own logo or design in and make it sexy!

To customize the login screen, you can do it the geek way. Go to the “wp-admin/images” folder on your WordPress server and change the two images login-bkg-tile.gif and login-bkg-bottom.gif. This could be easy enough if you are familiar with Photoshop and should be safe since you are not editing any PHP file.

Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted and WordPress shows a blank page

Hot WordPress

Recently I was setting up a WordPress blog for a friend of mine. What was supposedly to be completed in minutes took me much longer than expected. The installation didn’t seem to start at all but threw out a blank page in IE and in Firefox it asked me to save the installation file. What the heck… the WordPress was the latest 2.3.2 version already, so should be stable and good.

The hosting was on a Plesk server. In the error_log file, I found the following error message which was not alien to me.

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 233472 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/blog/wp-admin/includes/schema.php on line 103

I think this means that the server did not have enough memory to process the size of the data that it’s required to perform. The default memory alloted to PHP was 8MB and this was fairly small for big applications such as WordPress, especially if you have a lot of plugins. But I wasn’t sure why this also happened to a new installation with the default plugins.
