Casio is releasing Digital Cameras with Makeup Function

Casio Japan will be releasing two sexy Exilim Zoom cameras with a makeup function to beautifully capture people’s faces. This makeup function works like the cloning tool in Photoshop does; it blurs and smooths blemishes in a person’s face.

Makeup

Those familiar with digital cameras may think this is a new name for “face detection”, but in fact this function works on top of that. Face detection firstly brightens up faces in the shot, and the makeup function will go one step further by optimizing the focus and exposure to make the skin look smooth and soft.

CUDA: Breaking the Intel & AMD Dominance

A few months ago, NVIDIA broke the news that they have acquired physics-processing company AGEIA, which manufactures the PhysX add-on card which didn’t do so well in the market. The result of that acquisition is only now starting to appear.

Nvidia CUDA

A little bit of history lesson first; when NVIDIA first launched their Geforce 8 series of GPUs (Graphics Processing Unit, because graphics card is so last century), it represented a new architecture that includes what is known as CUDA. CUDA is a type of C programming language which is used specifically for these Geforce 8 GPUs. CUDA allows programmers to write programs which can be run from inside the graphics card itself, turning the GPU into a general-purpose processor, albeit like a CPU but with some differences.

That was some 2 years ago. Today, NVIDIA have already launched their Geforce 9 series and then moved on to their GT200 series, maintaining and upgrading the CUDA capabilities of each generation of cards, but without any observable benefit to the public. When will developers start using CUDA?

Koi Pond turns your iPhone into a Koi Aquarium

One of the reasons why iPhone is one of the gadgets in my wish list is there are so many cute and interesting applications developed for this mobile phone. Currently, the most happening application for iPhone has to be the Koi Pond which is developed by The Blimp Pilots. On the iTunes App Store, this paid application has occupied the top spot for a few weeks already.

Koi Pond

It might be a little strange that such a simple application would be such a hit, but imagine yourself gazing into a pond of crystal clear water… and enjoying playful kois swimming through the water… they are so close, and you can even touch them. You run your fingers across the surface of the pond, the water ripples away… and the kois dart away. This intuitive response must be the most amazing thing to ever hit a mobile phone!

Well, today, I’m going to recommend five Firefox add-ons that will make your life as a web developer a little bit easier.

1) ColorZilla

ColorZilla

Let’s say you really love a color scheme of your favorite website. You love it so much, that you want to implement the same color scheme for your own site. Unfortunately for you, you have no clue how to figure out what’s the RGB color or HTML color code. That will soon change with the Firefox add-on, ColorZilla. ColorZilla allows you to obtain a HTML or RGB value of an object on any website.

AVS DVD Player and Cooliris Firefox add-on

Today I’m going to recommend two awesome entertainment themed freebies. However, unlike the past freebies, one of these freebies is the coolest Firefox add-on I’ve seen in years.

1) AVS DVD Player

AVS DVD Player

Let’s say you build your own computer, but you forgot to install useful media codecs for Windows Media Player… wait, what are codecs? They’re basically programs that help media player encode and/or decode a media file. Without codecs, your media player will not be able to play those media files. This means no mpg video files, no mov files, and especially no DVD’s can be played with Windows Media Player without the right codecs!

Well, one of today’s freeware solves all of those problems. Today, I’m recommending the AVS DVD Player, one of the best freeware DVD players around.

Unlike other so claim “Freeware DVD Players” this one is utterly free! No hidden fees, no freaking annoying watermarks, just all the features in a regular DVD player for free! Also, the AVS DVD player is much more user friendly than other freeware DVD players. While your movie is playing, you can just click your mouse button on the screen, and the AVS DVD Player controls applet will pop up. The controls are so simple that anyone can get used to the them in a matter of seconds.

Best Google Street View photos

Recently, there has been a lot of uproar about the introduction of street view feature in Google Maps. Street View enables users to see well, street view images of certain parts of several major cities, including those in the US, Australia and Japan.

This is of course very cool. From the looks of the panoramic images, they must have mounted several cameras on top of a vehicle in 360 degree views. Then as they drove along they snapped high-quality images to use in Google Maps. Although Google Street View is still very now, there are already tonnes of funny, weird and even sexy things spotted on Street View, and here are several we like the most.

Girls sunbathing

Girls sunbathing! Haha… this is really interesting. I am not really obsessed with privacy but for those who are, it could be a matter of concern.

3D side view generator

How do you see your name in 3D and from almost every angle? Use the Side View Generator.

Enter your name and it will create a 3D view. It doesn’t end here obviously, it will then rotate to reveal another word from the side. It is so cool you have to try it yourself!

Kong

Enter my name “Kong”, and it turns out like the above… but after a second, it rotates and become this.

Freeware security programs My Lockbox and Avast antivirus

Security is something of highly importance these days. It’s very easy for someone to pick up information off your computer or worse; send you a computer virus ruining every folder, and program in it! Today, I’m going to share with you two freeware programs that will make you computer not only safe from curious neighbors, but evil viruses as well.

1) My Lockbox

My Lockbox

Let’s say that you’re like any ordinary computer user who like to bring files from your home to your workplace. These files usually consist of your family photos, videos, social security number (just in case you forget it), and other confidential files. Now, let say that a noisy jerk called a “co-workers” likes to spy on other co-workers by accessing their personal files. What are you going to do? Don’t fret! My Lockbox is here to help.
