AVS DVD Player and Cooliris Firefox add-on

Today I’m going to recommend two awesome entertainment themed freebies. However, unlike the past freebies, one of these freebies is the coolest Firefox add-on I’ve seen in years.

1) AVS DVD Player

AVS DVD Player

Let’s say you build your own computer, but you forgot to install useful media codecs for Windows Media Player… wait, what are codecs? They’re basically programs that help media player encode and/or decode a media file. Without codecs, your media player will not be able to play those media files. This means no mpg video files, no mov files, and especially no DVD’s can be played with Windows Media Player without the right codecs!

Well, one of today’s freeware solves all of those problems. Today, I’m recommending the AVS DVD Player, one of the best freeware DVD players around.

Unlike other so claim “Freeware DVD Players” this one is utterly free! No hidden fees, no freaking annoying watermarks, just all the features in a regular DVD player for free! Also, the AVS DVD player is much more user friendly than other freeware DVD players. While your movie is playing, you can just click your mouse button on the screen, and the AVS DVD Player controls applet will pop up. The controls are so simple that anyone can get used to the them in a matter of seconds.

Another cool reason to pick up the AVS DVD Player is that it can play more than DVD’s! The AVS Media player is also a universal media player! It can play MPEG4 (including DivX, XviD, etc.), MPEG1, MPEG2, AVI, Real Media video, Quick Time files, WMV files (including WMV-HD), H.263, H.264, and mobile video formats (3GP, 3GP2, MP4). There should be no reason why you shouldn’t download this awesome freeware DVD program!

2) Cooliris

I must say, this has to be one of the coolest Firefox add-on I have downloaded in years. After downloading Cooliris (formerly PicLens), the only thing I want to do is to give Firefox 3 a hug and give put Internet Explorer aside!

So, what makes Cooliris one of my favorite Firefox add-ons? Cooliris is a Firefox add-on that gives you a 3d wall of online photos and videos. The 3D wall is a breath to behold, and scrolling through the 3d wall is absolutely amazing! The user interface is so easy that someone who has never touched a computer before can enjoy using it without much trouble at all. Just use your mouse to scroll through the 3d wall and click on whatever picture fits your fancy. Thus far, only 21 sites support Cooliris though. These sites include big names such as Google Image Search, Yahoo Image Search, YouTube, Facebook, Myspace, Flickr, and others.

Cool reviews

Watching YouTube videos through Cooliris is certainly one of my favorite things to do with the add-on. Also, you can shop with Amazon.com using Cooliris. Trust me, you absolutely have to download this Firefox add-on. Cooliris will give you a reason why you should be proud to be a Firefox user. Take that Internet Explorer!
