Nikon introduces D60 DSLR

I was browsing through Nikon’s website and was delighted to learn that they have just introduced a new DSLR named D60. The D60 has the same compact lightweight body and easy to use control layout compared to similar models from Nikon such as the D40 and D40X.

Just like the D40X, D60 doesn’t have the built-in focus drive motor which means it can auto focus only with motor lenses (AF-S and AF-I lenses). This must be the biggest turn off for serious amateur photographers.

Anyway, at least Nikon include a couple of innovative features in this latest DSLR, they include:

  • Anti-dust system that incorporates a self-cleaning sensor unit that shakes off dust, and an airflow system which blows dust away from the sensor.
  • Orientation sensor, automatically rotates user interface when the camera’s orientation is changed.
  • Eye sensor which turns off the LCD monitor when the viewfinder is used.

I think D60 is a really good buy if you are looking to step up to DSLR photography and thinking of getting your first entry level DSLR. D60 is a wonderful choice for photo enthusiasts looking for remarkable performance in a compact package. Like the hugely popular Nikon D40x, D60 sports a visually intuitive LCD information display, in-camera editing tools and exciting creative options, all these make D60 a much more fun and easier DSLR to use! 🙂

Not sure on the pricing yet and of course it may take a while before this model arrives Malaysia. If you can’t wait try D40X at about RM2500, or if you are willing to spend then look for D80 at about RM3800.
