After being delayed for close to a month, WordPress 2.2 was finally released on 15 May 2007. This latest version of the popular blogging software includes a number of new features, most notably Widgets integration, and of course hundreds of bug fixes.
Some new features at a glance:
- Full Atom support, including Atom 1.0.
- Widgets are now supported in core. Widgets allow dummies like myself to easily rearrange and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with drag-and-drop simplicity.
- A new Blogger importer that can seamlessly import posts and comments from the latest version of Google’s Blogger.
- Protection against activating a plugin or editing a file that will break your blog.
- “Deactivate All Plugins” button.
- Infinite comment stream. This one is really cool, you have to download WordPress 2.2 to see this in action yourself!
- Post Preview moved into a popup window, rather than an iframe on the Write page.
- Uses the lighter JQuery for JS core library which faster.
