1. HTC Desire:

2. Apple iPhone 4:
1 GHz Apple A4 processor

Navigation wise, both are equally fast. But for gaming, iPhone 4 is better because HTC Desire has no dedicated graphic engine.

SCREEN & RESOLUTION:

1.HTC Desire:
3.7 inch, AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 millions color.
480 x 800 pixels.

2.Apple iPhone 4:
3.5 Inch, TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 millions color and IPS technology.
640 x 960 pixels (Retina display – 4 times clearer than previous generations.)

HTC Desire screen is simply beautiful but iPhone 4’s IPS and Retina Display are far superior to HTC Desire’s AMOLED

CAMERA & VIDEO RECORDING:

1.HTC Desire:
5 Megapixels, LED flash, face detection and auto focus. (with camera options)
Recording at WVGA (800×480 pixels) for 15fps

2.Apple iPhone 4:
5 Megapixels, LED flash and auto focus.
Recoding at 720p for 30fps.

Clearly, iPhone 4 is far superior in Video Recoding and takes better photo quality. But rumors have it that HTC Desire might be getting 720p recording in future update.

OS & AVAILABLE APPS:

1.HTC Desire:
Android OS 2.1 Eclair (Soon be upgraded to Froyo 2.2 with full flash support and 2x to 4x times speed increment.)
More than 70,000 apps

2.Apple iPhone 4:
iOS4 with multitasking, folder managment and etc.
More than 200,000 apps.

iOS4 is fast, so is Android. If you need freedom (rooting) and widget, Android will be your choice. But iOS4 has more quality games.

CONCLUSION

HTC desire is definitely one of the best smart phone out there. But iPhone 4 is far superior in term of features and available apps. With Apple’s new gyro sensor, secondary camera, IPS & retina display, noise cancellation, extremely durable battery and A4 processor (used in iPad), HTC Desire is still behind. But of course, HTC Desire is value-for-money compared to iPhone 4 and you got the freedom to root your phone, Google apps integration and interactive widgets. So it is the choice for techno geeks like myself.

I think this is a somewhat “selective” comparison, a better approach is to think what you want to use the phone for; I had a wish list when I chose my phone:

I use FM radio quite a lot, so any phone I buy has to have one.

I use the phone abroad and I swap to a local SIM when there, so it has to be unlocked.

I’m a cricket fan and the BBC stream commentary of my local team using flash, so the phone has to support flash.

I use Outlook as a planner, so the phone has to sync easily with Outlook.

Once you have a list of requirements (and, I presume, other people’s are different from mine), then you can look at the phones more sensibly.

You cannot compare a Desire with an iPhone4, certainly the best model that HTC got to offer so far is the HTC EVO 4G. It packs a whole lot punch than the Desire and it can give iPhone 4 a run for their money.

The only problem that I think of about HTC at the moment is the apps. Does it have same number of App as iphone?

I am thinking to buy Android once it gets millions of apps.

HTC Desire is available on the shelves in Malaysia while iPhone 4 is not. Black market units are changing hands for RM3.5k upwards, compared to less than RM2k for HTC Desire. That makes HTC Desire the smarter choice for now.

It sounds like HTC is trying to compete with the iphone but fell a little short in the specs. I’m sure this battle is not over yet. Both of these phones will keep getting better with future versions.

Great comparison. I was thinking of changing to an HTC instead of getting the new iPhone 4, but I’ve had all the other iPhones and there is a strangely addictive quality about Apple’s products. I recently changed form PC to Mac as well, and can’t imagine going back.

It’s shocking that such a low memory has been provided for a top multimedia phone, surely this should have come with a 32Gb memory card. As this is a touch screen phone there was absolutely no need for the physical buttons at the bottom of the phone or the side. Other than that HTC Desire rocks and is very impressive, completely blows my former N96 outa the water.

Htc desire froyo 2.2 completely blown away iphone 4 lol. this review is kinda outdated. Don’t compare android htc desire 2.1 vs iphone 4. Please compare htc desire Froyo 2.2 vs iphone 4. That is more fair. Htc desire won “phone of thee year” in T3 awards beat crappy device like an iphone 4.

such an icrap fanboy review. full of biased. u only show the advantage of the iphone. why don’t u compare about the phone functionality, connectivity, browser of these phones. why? bcoz u reallized that the htc desire will blowdown the iphone easily.

what about true multitasking? bluetooth file sharing? usb file sharing? internet sharing? customisable homescreen?

yes i do agreed bout the amount of apps on the market. do u want 2 install million of the apps on ur phone. thousands of apps is more than enough bcoz u wont download all of them.

I dont know any thing about iphone but HTC Desire i will tell u what the mean prob.
1 Battery life sucks
2 It has only one camera so prob. in video calling.
3 If ur doing any marketing type job or roaming type job sorry this is not for u again battery suck other than u use another phone with this.
