Gamers rejoice! And rub your hands together furiously and salivate! StarCraft II is about to be released!
Update: Latest Cinematic Trailer just released on Jul 21, 2010 by Blizzard:
For some, July 27, 2010 is the most important day in the calendar; for the last few years and maybe more.
For others – that means those of you who has been too busy working to remember 1998 when StarCraft was released, this article is full of videos that will take you back to those days when we used to rule the galaxy with our buddies, and all we do is go Zerg or Protoss hunting. Ah, those were the days!
Even as I am writing this, people who bought the digital version of the game are already downloading it, waiting for the game to be officially released on July 27 in order to be able to install it. These people want to be ahead of the digital queue! This digital queue is much better than the one you see at an Apple product launch or the one when Star Wars Episode I just got released. For one thing, you don’t have to sleep overnight on site to be the first. All you gotta do is wait. The bad thing is – the waiting can kill you …
So while waiting, why not take a peek at the game requirements provided by Blizzard, to release some tension, and also to watch and re-watch some videos to get us in the mood:
This is the StarCraft II Official Cinematic Trailer from 3 years ago, for those of you who has not seen it yet:

I did play its beta. Its requirement is really high for a malaysian. I barely can play it with low setting with my 8600GT(indeed it’s old) =D … It’s REAL FUN when something blows up!

I actually still play the original starcraft game, and I was a part of the Beta testing team for Starcraft 2, and to be completely honest I feel so weird playing starcraft 2 as it is different from the original game. I will likely still purchase the game just to play the single player campaign to continue the story line, but I probably will not play the game to the extent that I’ve played the original starcraft.
Till then,
Jean

Wow 12Gb free space required. It must be a big upgrade from the first Starcraft. Then again, it better be after making people wait 12 years for a sequel game.

Oh no, 8600GT can only play at low settings? Then my laptop with C2D and 8600M GS has no hope already.
But fear not! I have a C2Q desktop with GTS 250 gfx card. Hopefully, I can play it at highest settings at 1920 x 1080 reso. :p

I’ve never been a big fan of this game genre. Maybe I’m just not quick enough building things and keeping all the workers busy, but I’m terrible at these kinds of games. I think warcraft is the only one I got into somewhat. Since my laptop won’t even support starcraft 2, that’s a good excuse for me to not bother trying it.

@Jeff:

@Laptop Briefcase: Not that much of a difference between Warcraft2/3 and StarCraft. On the other hand, if you’re really talking about WarCraft, a really ancient game – that game I find hard to play. You have my respect if you can sit through it, sir.
Shareware copies are still available for download, I think – I downloaded it when I got really bored some years ago.

@monkey99 Actually there is a huge difference between those 3 games you mentioned. First of all Warcraft 2 has a very old graphics engine, while starcraft has the better one, followed by warcraft 3. Still though…. each has its own dramatically different units, the only similarity in my opinion would be that they are from the same game company and genre.

@Bidet, Diablo 3 yes! Since I was disappointed with Starcraft 2, I am definitely looking forward to the release of Diablo 3! I just hope it doesn’t take 10 years like Starcraft 2 took.

The price is quite ok to the public. Amazon is selling it at the price of around US$55.

@monkey99: I guess to me this whole genre of gaming is quite similar. It just seems like different things you’re building in each one. Even back in the C&C days it was pretty much the same thing. Then again I’m probably only saying that because I’m horrible at all those games.

I’ve just ordered the game, can’t wait to play it. I’d never played the original game though, as I was too busy playing first-person shooters back then.

Starcraft 2 is a great game especially in multiplayer. However we still need a lot of patches to balance the races cause Terrans are the strongest one.

The character in the first video looks a little bit like Nicole Kidman. I hadn’t noticed that the first time I watched it a few months ago.
