Here’s a preview of Ang Pao design:

To make your own DIY Ang Pao, download your Ang Pao packet design over here.
1. Download Ang Pao Packet Design printable version here.
2. Buy 80 or 100gm of normal paper (not advisable to use thick paper as it is difficult for folding – you can also buy grain paper to achieve the grain effect if so desired.)
3. Open in Photoshop
4. Print in A4 size paper.
5. Cut out using pen knife
6. Fold according to the number sequence as given, then glue the highlighted part.
7. You will get your Ang Pow.

Nice design! Like it very much! I hope to get more of this. Perhaps a longer version of it, as I don’t like to fold the money.

Wow! I’ve never seen Ang Paos in such vibrant colors before! Some interesting designs here which I’m sure will make an impact during your CNY visitation. Maybe use them and you won’t even have to put any money in it

I didn’t know these were called ang pao packets. We always just called them red envelopes. I didn’t know that some people actually printed their own. Where I live certain chinese stores print these up with their ads on them and give empty packets out for free.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments
Aluminium Case & G Web – During Chinese New Year, we visit one another and it is customary for married people to give “Ang Pao” to kids and even any non-married people. Usually there would be some money in the Ang Pao packet, kids especially love getting them… while non-married people who are getting on in years usually feel the pressure, especially when they receive Ang Pao from younger people haha! Well if you guys are not married and do visit Malaysia during CNY, look me up and I will take you visiting and Ang Pao fishing

Yes I am aware of the basics of the tradition. My girlfriend is Chinese. So we both get ang pao packets on our birthdays and during other holidays like Chinese New Year. I just didn’t know the packets had an official name.

Kit Kat, thanks for that explanation. I was about to ask what it was all about. Seems to be a very nice custom. Many cultures have different times when such rituals are performed, all oriented towards building or strengthening existing bonds. Just shows that people are the same everywhere.

Thank you for clearing that up Kitkat. I am indeed unmarried and getting long in the tooth, so I suppose there should be plenty of Ang Pao Packets coming my way!
I think it is an awesome tradition, and thank you for teaching me something new!

Those designs are really interesting. I like the original style that they present and some simple graphic elements that give some feeling of proper proportions and elements of well done job.
