Microsoft has the biggest warchest... and Yahoo is a must have coz Windows Vista is not making much headway for now. So it comes down to pricing. $35 should make it a done deal for MS...

@ keeyit

Yahoo's definitely up for a fight. It seems more of a culture clash. The question is if the acquisition can maintain the pace of innovation.

@ Larry Lam

Yahoo and AOL could be a decent competitor if you think about what AOL brings to the table. It recently acquired Bebo and only today there is this news of acquisition of Sphere. Also, Time Warner is looking to offload AOL for a decent deal... so cannot count out Yahoo/AOL deal as of now.

@ Wing Loon

Microsoft is a good fighter and has perhaps the largest chunk of resources to throw at competition such as Google. But such massive acquisitions will take time and that may be good for Google atleast in the immediate run.

I suspect that Microsoft will win over Yahoo. The AOL thing is just a desperate move by Yahoo to remain independant. Little chance of that happening since they are not producing any results and Google continues to gain. It will be good for the industry if Yahoo goes to MS as it will create a stronger competitor to Google. If Yahoo teams up with AOL both lame ducks will be dead ducks.
