Maxis wireless broadband shapes torrents...limewire.....and almost any other P2P app available for that matter, frankly I think it's disgraceful considering that it costs as much as it does and offers "UNLIMITED" (yeah "UNLIMITED" with the quotations) internet usage.... then when you read the fine print they tell you that they cannot offer stable P2P usage (ie THEY SHAPE P2P!!!!) and they only allow up to 3Gigs of data to be transferred per month. 3GIGS??? thats PATHETIC ! I can finish that in 2 DAYS.. hell not even 2 days maybe ONE DOWNLOAD! and I use Ubuntu and Fedora Linux, so whenever a new version comes out I cant even use torrent to get it I have to wait sooooo damn long for it to finish by normal downloading. I swear don't ever get maxis wireless BB. Its all lies. SLOW, SHAPES TORRENTS and only gives you 3Gigs of transfer - CHEATS. Sorry for the vent... but it had to come out, and this seemed like an appropriate topic :)

KitKat & Sharon, you use popular BitTorrent client like Deluge or Halite. They can bypass the TM p2p blocking...check out my blog for the software, :D

Sharon,
I think what iCalvyn means is you can buy a hosting account (perhaps you need a semi dedicated server) and download files especially bitorrent files onto the server, then you download the files from that server itself.

In other words you are using the hosting account as an intermediate in the downloading process.

Why? Because the speed would be faster.

Larry Lam,
I think Al Rahji bank and Public Bank's debit cards works. But some other banks' visa credit cards work as well.

I don't think PayPal pays into malaysian bank accounts just yet, but if you have a Debit Card it can go in there.

Larry Lam:
Yes, it is most frustrating that some technology is just not available in Malaysia. Oh, I thought we could withdraw paypal from Malaysian bank now, is it not? Never tried doing it, so I don't know. I usually use my online funds to buy things off net back when I was in the UK.

iCalvyn:
Do you mean file hosting websites? Like rapidshare and megaupload? If you are, it is a good thing that we can share a file as big as a movie on the hosting server but until now, I have yet to find one that is the least annoying! If they don't have junk ads, they have download limitations, or they need you to download something before you can download your file. Or super slow speed.

Great article! Dunno much about p2p but certainly iTunes has created a great model for others to follow. Unfortunately it is not available in Malaysia much like Paypal ... What's the matter with Malaysia! Why no-one wants us??? Anyway latest talk is that Amazon could be coming in to challenge iTunes, a little competition would be great!

jkkp : I used to use LimeWire too but found it to be too slow, then I stopped using it.

Wing Loon & Kitkat:
Yeah, I agree with Kitkat, maybe you can share with us any tips? At least if Streamyx try to block p2p, we have a trick up our sleeves.
