I know you may not pay attention to what’s being displayed at the window of Mediaplex because you may take it as yet another commercial. But the other day, I decided to stop and take a closer look at the window of this gadget shop in Mid Valley. Wow… only then I realize such advanced GPS navigation system is available in Malaysia! Yes, they have Malaysia maps! Hahaha…

And, amazingly the price is not very expensive. It costs RM1599 only… yeah, not expensive at all if you are on the road all the time. Imagine how much time and petrol cost this GPS navigation system from Garmin can save you in the long run? However, I don’t know if you need to subscribe to update the maps or not.

Look at the packaging. It’s a fairly small device and should be easy to install in any vehicle. Just fix it on your dashboard like how the demo video shows, use super-glue or something… The video which is shown in Mediaplex is very interesting, it shows you how advanced is the navigation system where it gives you both visual and audio directions to guide you to your destination.
I believe this is a fairly good device to have if you work on the road.

This technology has existed for a long time in Malaysia but they’re not marketing it aggressively because the market for GPS devices is not so big here. The ones you saw are Garmin’s new models. Before this there were few more not-so-famous brands which offered detailed KL maps for about the same price.

Inbaraj,
I wonder how detailed are the Malaysian maps? And are they being updated frequently?… you know also that Malaysian roads are being changed very frequently.
