How do you normally check for updates from your favorite websites and blogs? In other words, how do you know if I have posted a new post on my blog?
Well, the answer is simple. You will have to visit the sites using your browser and check them one by one. You’ll perhaps spend a few minutes looking for new updates and move on to the next website. So, just image how much time you need to spend if you have to visit 10 websites a few times a day just to find if they have updated.
More websites emerge every day. So is there an easier way to keep “in touch” with the latest updates from these websites? The answer is RSS!

So what is RSS?
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”. RSS is a simple technology designed to distribute content from websites, and deliver these “feeds” directly to your reader which is usually referred as RSS Reader.
How does RSS work?
Let’s take a simple example of the way your email work. When someone sends you an email, it will be delivered to your inbox. In order to read your emails, you simply need to open your inbox. Simple!
Imagine if you don’t have this option. Each time your friend sends you an email, the email will not be delivered to you but instead the email is stored in their own mailbox. So in order to retrieve the email, you must check with all of your friends if they have sent you any emails one by one. This is very impractical and inefficient.

The traditional method of reading web content is that you will need to check the different websites for updates on those respective websites. However, with the introduction of RSS, this traditional method is reversed with all the updates delivered to you instead.
This is how RSS changes the way we keep ourselves updated with new contents from our favorite websites. RSS is also referred to as the “inbox of the internet” which means that any new, cool, and happening stuff on the Internet will be delivered to you.
How can I use RSS?
To get started, you will need to use a reader. There are many different types of readers out there, but the most famous one are Bloglines, Google Reader and My Yahoo. I will use Google Reader for example.
Go to http://www.google.com/reader to register an account.
Next, look for your favorite website or blog. I am sure the first blog that comes to your head is none other than Kongtechnology.com. That’s for sure, guaranteed, and no question about it at all.

To subscribe to this blog which brings you the latest and most happening technology stuff, you simply need to subscribe to its RSS feed which is http://feeds.feedburner.com/kongtechnology. To do that, click on the “Add subscription” link in Google Reader. Copy and paste Kongtechnology.com’s free URL above, and click on “Add”.
No doubt. You are smart, I am sure you have no problem with the above step. Now, give it a try and subscribe all your favorite blogs, news channels and other websites in your RSS reader. It’s so much easier to read all of them in a centralized convenient reader!

If you thought that’s all, you are wrong! Sophisticated tech blog like this one has more to offer. You can subscribe to my blog through your email address and I will make sure I email updated posts to you… Please please do not feel touched, I am honored to deliver my updates to you everyday. You can read my posts RIGHT IN YOUR EMAIL. How convenient and time saving is that!

Even today, many people do not know about RSS. Going by the date of your post, you are quite ahead of time.

not many of my friends are using RSS even today…but i think if you are running a technology blog..or on a topic that caters to a more high tech audience, the RSS will work quite well..but if you are on a blog that talks abt parenthood etc, the audience may not be familiar with RSS to be able to use it..
